PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

LEADERSHIP

One of the greatest skills I have had the opportunity to develop at UF is leadership, especially through the different roles I've had in different organizations. Being a NaviGators mentor to international students has allowed me to lead other students and help them to assimilate to UF life. Serving on the executive boards of Gator Powerlifting and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences allowed me to lead and guide my peers, which gave me a greater sense of confidence and responsibility for groups of students. This trait is probably the greatest skill I will implement in my future profession.

INITIATIVE

Having a sense of initiative and drive is another trait that I have developed since being an undergraduate at UF. Initiative and determination are incredibly necessary at an institution like UF, in which students are expected to find opportunities and excel at them. I found these skills to be the most crucial during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, in which all of us were sent home to conduct school online. I had to become more resourceful and determined to find research and leadership opportunities on my own, which was immensely difficult, yet very rewarding in the end. I am proud to know that I truly had the initiative to pave my own way at this university, and I hope to continue this during my graduate studies as well.

COMMUNICATION

Communication, both online and offline, is a very important skill to have in this modern era. As the Communications Committee Chair of the CLAS Ambassadors, my primary role was facilitating communication amongst the organization as well as to other organizations in the College for Liberal Arts & Sciences. Through the UF Navigators International program, I was also gifted the opportunity to communicate with students from other countries that spoke other languages, which forced me to truly work on my communication skills. It was an interesting experience having to explain many colloquial terms and phrases to students from other countries, as well as finding commonalities between our languages in a way that we can truly understand each other. I think that communication is easier now with social media platforms that allow us to interact with so many different types of people, especially those who may not speak the same language as us.
